My boat took some damage when it got towed back to shore
The eye bolt on the front tore into the plastic
I decided to dismantle the entire deck and pump some caulk into the broken bits
It took me a while to remember how I had put it together years ago
I ordered a new rudder assembly, and installed it
I'm not sure what's causing it, the heat, my tall grass, or my piss
but there are flies everywhere
They've already filled up three fly traps
I decided to mow my back lawn just in case that's the cause
and because I think the neighbors might be getting annoyed with me
An unexpected thunder storm blew through
High winds knocked out the power
and a neighbor's tree snapped in half and landed on their house
I looked around at my own trees
The front tree isn't going to land on anything
The magnolia in backyard might drop a branch on my house
The pine tree has the most potential for destruction
I'm sitting in the dark, waiting for other people to restore my civilization
A lot of my technology runs on batteries
but they run out fast
Tonight, I'm keeping myself entertained, by drinking all of my beer before it goes warm
Power is still out this morning
I'm able to cook food on the gas stove
but my fridge is melting
I'm thinking about getting a small generator to keep it running at times like this
An interesting day at the lake
There wasn't much wind, and it wasn't blowing out of the west
so, it took me forever to get to the party side of the lake
I've heard some regular bar goers say that New Years Eve is for amature drinkers
The party area was packed with people who wouldn't normally come out to the lake
but they had their butts hanging out of their thongs
and they were all impressed with my laid back sailing technique
so I'm not going to complain
Power still isn't fixed
I expect the repair crews have a lot to fix, or they don't work on the holiday
I'm starting to get annoyed by how often the power has gone out over the years
Especially after they upgraded all of the power poles
Still no power this morning
I discovered that I can use one of my battery packs to power the modem and router to give me internet access
I went to see the Supergirl movie
People online had negative reviews
I don't know what they were expecting
I thought it was fine
It got a little tiresome seeing them come up with new ways to depower or distract the kryptonian
I took my battery blocks to work and charged them up
I also took a gallon of water and put it in the freezer at work
I've got most of my food in a cooler filled with melting ice and cold water
Electricity came back on at about 3pm
It's taking a lot longer than I thought it would to refreeze the water in my freezer
I think I will buy a generator anyway, and keep it in the box until next time the power goes out
Another broken tooth
Lower left farthest back
It's created a hole on the side, in between the teeth
Food easily gets stuck in there, and it's difficult to get out
Car is making a grinding noise up front
I think it's the brakes
Took the car to the quick oil change place
97,661 miles
Much quicker than the dealership repair shop
The guy seemed surprised when I asked for the full-synthetic oil
The better oil made it more expensive, but worth it
Got up late, and spent the whole morning packing
I didn't leave the house until 1pm
I've been trying to find a new paddle for my boat
but the sports stores only sell kayak paddles
and the West Marine where I bought my first one had closed
I found another West Marine in Ohio, on the way
I stopped there to find it was having a going out of business sale
Luckily, they had one more of the collapsable paddle I was looking for
I got back on the road to New York
I told the GPS to avoid tolls and it gave me a route that avoided I90
The alternate route was a bit crooked but got me there just as fast
There have been some wildfires in Ontario Canada, north of the upper peninsula
It's 600 miles away, but the wind managed to carry the smoke all the way down here
I got to the campsite at 9pm
I set up the tent and movie screen and watched Captain America and the Winter Soldier
My campsite has no trees for shade, so I'm glad I brought my sun umbrella
I cooked breakfast with a double-boiler method, and didn't burn the food
It took me a while to figure out how to put my boat in Lake Ontario
There is almost no access to the water
The campground has a fence blocking a ten foot cliff drop to the water
and you're not allowed to go down to the water to swim
I managed to find a forest path along a river to the lake
I tried to sneak my boat to the water, but got spotted by a park ranger
She said I'm not allowed to swim
I told her I'm going sailing and took off
Lake Ontario is the last of the Great Lakes for me to visit
The wind and waves were very good for sailing
but when sailing on a large lake it's hard to find a destination to sail to
I noticed the skyline of a city on the far side of the lake
It turned out to be Toronto
The lake felt a little different than Michigan lakes
Of course the entire shoreline is covered with mansions
but there weren't any piers or docks jutting into the water
Maybe there isn't the boat culture you get in Michigan
or maybe New York doesn't allow such things in their lakes
I snuck the boat out of the water and back to camp
Somehow my car's battery had died, luckily the ranger had a battery booster get it started
I drove into town to find some dinner
Lewiston is a small historic town on the Niagra River
I walked up and down Main street until I settled on an overly fancy pizza place
Tonight I watched Captain America Civil War
The weather forcast called for thunderstorms, so I covered the tent with a tarp and staked it down
I drove into the city of Niagara Falls and walked to the Niagara Falls state park
(i recently noticed it's spelled NIAGARA, not NIAGRA)
The falls are split into two, with Goat Island in the middle
Most of the state park is on the island
I followed the outer path along the perimeter of the island
catching a view of as much of the river and falls as I could
Of course the place was packed with people
It's my own fault for coming to a tourist attraction on the weekend
I'm not sure if I should have been surprised by how many non-Americans were there
I decided to not take the boat ride along the bottom of the falls
but I did walk the "Cave of Winds"
They take you down an elevator to the bottom of the falls
Then you walk along a constructed path to get hit by the water falling
Like everything else, the experience was ruined by the presence of other humans
There's one part called the "Hurricane Platform" where you get hit with the full force of the waterfall
I wanted to get in the middle of it and enjoy the sensation
but there was a large family monopolizing the area for about twenty minutes
I had to stand back and wait for them to fuck off before I could have my turn
Despite the rain coats we were given, I was pretty soaked by the end
I wanted to get a souvenier before leaving
but every gift shop I went to
(and there were a lot of them)
only had the low effort tacky ones that just had the name of the place printed on it
I prefer to get something that has some relevence to the place
Some designs did have a picture of the falls, but nothing really caught my eye
So my souvenier will be the memory of Niagara Fall's lack of imagination
I ended up walking around for about five hours
I was wearing my kilt, and when I got back, I found the inside of my thighs were sore from rubbing together
I don't know how women deal with it
I might have to start wearing boxers under my kilt if I know I'm going to be walking a lot
I woke up at dawn and started packing up the car
The sun annoyed me all the way home
No matter what direction I was driving
the sun contrived to shine in my driver's side window
Muaamar sent me an updated to-do list
I spent the rest of the week slowly parsing each serial number
I went sailing today
There was slightly less wind than I would like, but it was still a good day
And what made it better, for the first time ever on this lake
I saw a woman's boob hanging out
I imagine that she was too tired to notice it had slipped out
or she had pulled her boob out to give everybody a quick show, then ducked down into her boat
(gods, that sounds pathetic, i'm so excited to finally see part of a naked woman)
I spent the morning packing < br>
I left at 4pm
I decided to bring Tommy's tent instead of my normal one
I knew it would take up less space in the car
I brought my french fry cooker set up to have french fries for dinner
I set up the movie screen to watch Avengers Infinity War
I'm not sure if it was a mistake, but I wandered over to another campsite that was playing good music
There was one guy there that immediately started pumping full of recreational poisons
cannabis candies, shots of whiskey, and half a mushroom
They wanted me to hang out with them, but I already had my own movie and potato plans
I sat down to watch the movie, and starting having a trip
I started visualizing the fundamental systems of the universe, dreams, the 0th dimension, others, time, and stuff I can't remember
I had enough presence of mind to pack up everything before going to bed
Probably because I had checked the weather forcast and had expected the rain that came
