Finally, the weather perfect for sailing
but the day turned out catastrophic
The wind couldn't make up its mind about blowing out of the west or the north
but it was a good day otherwise
Until I snapped my tiller
The handled broke off of the rudder
My first thought was to walk along the shoreline back to the bench
but then I thought I could hold the sail with one hand
while holding the rudder with the other
It was working okay despite the back end of the boat being submerged in water
but sailing into the wind was almost impossible
I ended up capsizing hard
the boat was completely upside down
the daggerboard started slipping out
I lost my paddle, the broken tiller, and the bottle of sunscreen
Luckily, my cooler with my car keys in it stayed floating in the innertube
I had to get help from another boat, and got towed back to my car
I won't be able to go sailing until I acquire a new steering system
It's got me thinking about how many things I've had to fix on the boat over the years
I've heard of these boats surviving for decades
but I'm thinking that it's because they don't get taken out on the water as much as mine does
I think I'd like to construct my own sailboat
in the same shape as my Snark
but sturdier
My earliest memory as a child
was in Kindercare when I was three years old
The teacher had just made a nice picture of herself out of macaroni
For some reason, she was going to throw it away
I got upset and pulled it out of the garbage can
I remember realizing something significant must have happened as my brain started retaining memories
Driving home from the store, I heard a "POP" as I drove over something
I was hoping it was just a rock
but I heard a hissing sound when I got home
I found a large bolt in my tire
I decided against pulling it out and used some fix-a-flat
I don't feel ready to get a new set of tires yet
A while back, I raked up the leaves in the yard
I had a plan to use my leaf shredder to powderize the leaves and use them for lawn fertilizer
Since then, I've been storing several bags of leaves in garage
I finally got around to running the leaves through the shredder
Knowing how loud and annoying the shredder can be, and not wanting to bother my neighbors, I used the shredder in the garage
I hadn't planned on how much dust the process would produce
Everything in the garage was covered in a layer of leaf dust
I tried to spread the shreddings over the lawn, but it just left a lumpy mess
I might try again next fall\winter
No amount of fix-a-flat could repair the hole in my tire
So I went to the tire store to get new ones
I would have preferred to squeeze every last mile out of my tires
but I decided to get four new tires
I had gotten four new tires in 2021
and the new tires cost $650
so I guess that's enough value for my money
I spent the ENTIRE day cleaning the garage
I pulled everything out
spent a lot of time sweeping and dusting
then put everything back in
I like to buy a tub of the cheap oily ice cream
and use it to make shakes in the blender
The problem is that the ice cream settles in and on my gut
It's not good to gain fat during summer bikini season
but I'm not interested in eating frozen food in the winter time
