So of course they closed Oakwood to fix the railroad bridge

I usually don't climb into bed until I'm really tired
so I fall asleep almost immediately
Last night though , I "woke up" after a long time , realizing that I hadn't gotten to sleep yet
My brain was too busy creating some self-insert fan-fiction
I left for Tennessee at about 10:30am
It took me about ten hours to get down there
due to me not driving fast , and the Cincinnati detour
When I drove down there for the eclipse in 2017
there was a backup on I75 just outside of Cincinnati
I was stuck in traffic for three hours before detouring through the city
I was surprized to see there was still construction going on four years later
I crossed the other smaller bridges , and stopped for food at Molly Malone in Covington KY
I ended up getting 41MPG on the way down
I discovered that Tennessee is split between Eastern and Central time zones
All week , I kept getting confused as to what time it actually is
My car's clock , my GPS , my phone , and my computers kept telling me different times
and there was a wall clock in the office that hadn't been updated for daylight savings time
Knowing the problem I was having , I set my alarm clock using the computers' timers
I set my phone and laptop alarms to wake me up in six hours to get me into the office on time
I assumed it would simply count down and go off when it hit zero
Instead , it made a calculation about when it should go off and went off at that time
It woke me up an hour earlier than it should , because it moved itself back into Eastern time
When doing these out of state projects
I first meet with the contact person , and discuss how we're going to do things
This time , Debbie had everything planned out to her satisfaction , and wasn't interested in any ideas I might have
I ended up with not much to do
I showed up at 7am to help the user's with their new laptops
but Debbie had a bunch of other technicians running around helping with that
After a few hours , the users left with their new laptops
I would go out to get some food
Then return , and sit around waiting for the local technicians to show up at 3pm and start the back ups
Once I was sure the technicians were capable of handling the backups , I went back to the hotel room
Every night , I did get a call from them to fix some problem
When things are running normally
my job has me outside a lot , running between buildings
I am fully aware of the outside temperature
especially when it gets below freezing
Once it hits fifty degrees , it feels comparatively warm
and when it gets to eighty degrees , it is comfortably hot
This year my body temperature is all confused
I'm stuck inside a temperature controlled building
Interspersed with trips down south
which have me in other air conditioned buildings
I decided that I wanted to spend Thursday night drinking a lot
I found a bar on the other side of the parking lot
I wanted a place I could stumble back to the hotel from
They had karaoke , and I really wanted to get up there and sing Jimmy Buffet's Son of a Sailor
but I lost my nerve after an old guy sang Frank Sinatra's My Way
When I got back to the hotel , I took off my jeans and threw them on the floor
In the morning , I found them soaked with some liquid
I'm thinking I may have woke up in the middle of the night and pissed on them
It didn't smell of urine , but I don't have any other explanation
and I don't remember getting up in the middle of the night to pee
(reminds of when i peed on my atari as a child)
I figured it would be rude of me to come all the way down to Tennesee and not stop to see Patti and Shawnee
So , I decided to visit on my way back
My social anxiety had constructed dreadful awkward senarios in my head
After all , it's not like I'm really close with them
Patti has some weird baby sitting job , so she wouldn't be there until tomorrow morning
I did have a pleasant time hanging out with Bill , Shawnee , and her family
The kids were annoying , but not awfully so
I think they enjoyed having a new person in the house to provide entertainment
I was going to spend the night , and leave in the morning
but I decided it would be better to drive during the night , and not in the sunlight
I started driving at about 11pm last night
but only drove about an hour before almost falling asleep at the wheel
I didn't find any rest stops along the way
One trick I learned is to sleep in the parking lot of a hotel
The police shouldn't be bothered , it's a reasonable place to stop
and there's less chance of being bothered by many people coming and going
A few hours uncomfortable sleep had me refreshed enough to carry on
There were many fewer cars on the road in the pre-dawn hours
I didn't have to detour through Cincinnati
It allowed me to drive much slower than the speed limit
and get more than 48MPG
My car tells me how many MPGs I'm getting at any moment
and it has a tachometer , so I can monitor my RPMs
It makes sense that fewer "gasoline explosions" per minute will result in better gas milage
Unfortunately , nobody else does math when driving
nor considering their fuel cost and environmental impact
If I was more of an asshole and less cowardly
I wouldn't care about the other people when driving 55MPH in a 70 zone
