We got the first real snow of the year
I hadn't rebuilt my snowman mold
so I just created a mountain of snow by the front door
I spray painted "LET IT SNOW" on it
YouTube showed me a review of a small and inexpensive CNC machine
I decided to order one
It has definite limitations
but it should be a fun toy
While bored at work, I searched CraigsList for "sailboat"
It was mostly large boats I couldn't afford
but I found an 8 foot inflatable catamaran for $100
I contacted the seller and drove up to Troy to pick it up
I won't know what I've bought until the weather gets warmer and I can put it together
While pulling into the laundromat, I spotted $20 in the parking lot
I jumped out and grabbed it
It's been a long time since I found money in the street
I remember twice when I was a kid riding my bike
I found $20 and $50
I expect there is a lot of money lying on the ground
but I'm zooming past it in my car
I've come to accept the realization that my job as a PC Renewal Field Technician has gone away
Ford is trying to do away with desktop computers, in favor of laptops and rack mounted servers
The few desktops out there will be attached to lab equipment and weird machines
There won't be any need for a technician to come to your desk because Ford is redesigning their buildings to not have permanent desks to accommedate the people mostly working from home
and people will be bringing their laptops to us at the Laptop Depot
Also, Ford is trying to trust Microsoft's OneDrive for their data transfers
I don't think I realized how much I enjoyed the work until it was gone
I liked going out to different buildings every day
I've never had to punch a clock, and nobody questioned what I was doing when I ran out the door
All the knowledge and insight I've gained about the different buildings will become unneeded
I got a lot of exercise walking around the different buildings carrying computer equipment
I liked cleaning and tidying the storage rooms
I could lay claim to useful e-waste before it got thrown in the trash
I enjoyed the physical activity of tearing apart the computer equipment on a user's desk, and then very neatly installing their new computers
People were always glad to see me come to their desk, because I was bringing them new toys
I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I got all of my work for the day done by 2pm
While paying some bills, I decided to do my taxes
I knocked them out in less than twenty minutes
I'm annoyed that it cost me $80 for the privilege of telling the IRS something they already knew
I woke up in the middle of the night to pee
but when I went back to bed
I couldn't get my brain to shut off and let me to back to sleep
I was fretting over my job, my health, the state of the world
Usually I can get my brain to focus on more pleasant things, like naked women, but not this time
I've gotten sick
I think I picked it up from some guy at work
I was walking behind him and suddenly smelled a puff of bad breath
I'm thinking it was the smell of dead lung cells
